Picking A President

I was raised in a atheist Republican home. My mom loved Ronald Reagan. She taught me to vote. I also have veteran military in my extended family on both sides. I believe it is my civil duty to vote, and I vote in local, state and national elections. I vote in primary and general elections. I live in America where soldiers have fought, and many have died, so we can live in a land where we are free to pick our politicians. When I vote, I believe I honor our military, my family and my country. There are many countries, whose citizens do not a have a right to vote. No part of me wants to come in agreement with that mindset and I make it a priority to vote. I vote for the platform, rarely the person. Charisma does not sway me in politics.

When I became a Christian in my early 20’s, the Republican platform aligned more with Biblical scripture than the Democrat party platform. I recognized almost the entire Democrat platform directly went against Biblical scripture and as of today, still does.

I remember over the years Donald Trump mentioning he might run for President. I thought he was like many celebrities who liked attention and would boast about running for office for more attention. I never took him seriously. Plus he had a past history of adultery and womanizing which I found disgusting. My husband and I had watched his Celebrity Apprentice show in the past and believed him to be a smart and savvy businessman.

One day in June 2015, I was washing dishes in my kitchen when I sensed the strong presence of the Holy Spirit come over me. I heard the voice of the Lord speak directly to my spirit as clear as day. “I have called Donald Trump to be President. Pray he wins the Presidency. Turn on CNN right now.” I turned on CNN and there was Donald and Melania Trump at Trump Towers live announcing Donald’s run for Presidency. Here is the link:

While watching the announcement on CNN (a channel I normally did not watch) I prayed: “Lord why did you pick him?” I heard as clear as day in my spirit, “Because he has no fear of man and I can use him.” This scripture impressed strongly on my mind; Proverbs 29:25: The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

I told my husband, my best friend and a few other people to vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 primary election. Trump won the primary. My husband was skeptical he would win the general election in 2016, and stayed up very late to watch election results while I went to bed. I told him before I went to sleep I knew in my spirit Trump would win. He woke me up about 2am excited. “Trump won! Trump won! It feels like Christmas!”

I voted for Donald Trump every time he has been on the ballot in both the primary and general elections. Is he perfect? No. He is a man, not Jesus Christ. He is a President, not a Pastor. I am grateful he chose to obey the Lord and serve as President of the United States of America. It is important when you vote for a politician, you pray and ask the Lord to give you wisdom. To be led by the Holy Spirit and not emotion or media. Only God sees the politician’s heart and future. If I had been led by emotion, I would have voted for the wrong Republican candidate in the primary election of 2016.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
