As a young girl, I suffered much from physical and verbal abuse. I lived in a household of atheism where I was forbidden to know God. I had no idea Christmas was about the birth of Jesus Christ, until I was older. My mom told me if I was ever water baptized, I would be disowned! However, in my early twenties I gave my life to Jesus Christ and was water baptized.
Jesus Christ said we will give account on the day of judgement for EVERY word we speak:
For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things; and the evil man, from his [inner] evil treasure, brings out evil things. But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. For by your words [reflecting your spiritual condition] you will be justified and acquitted of the guilt of sin; and by your words [rejecting Me] you will be condemned and sentenced.” Matt 12:34-37
What we say affects our world. It affects our family and those around us. We always have a choice concerning what we say, and how we say it.
Do you edify and build up those around you, or are you constantly complaining and tearing others down? It took years for me to get healed of the awful, untrue things that were spoken over my life by my parents! As a parent, I am VERY careful about what I say over my daughter! She is told on a daily basis how much she is loved!
Many times I have asked for God’s forgiveness for some of the things I have said out of anger or frustration! Only the blood of Jesus Christ can cover that sin, and you have to ask for it!
The Scriptures tell us how to embrace true life and find beauty in each day:
For the Scriptures tell us: Whoever wants to embrace true life and find beauty in each day must stop speaking evil, hurtful words and never deceive in what they say. Always turn from what is wrong and cultivate what is good; eagerly pursue peace in every relationship, making it your prize.
1 Peter 3:10-11
Are there some words you regret saying? Have you spoken a few careless words you really don’t want to give account for on judgment day? Me too! Here is a prayer to pray for a fresh start:
Heavenly Father, I come before you in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Please forgive me of every word I have spoken out of Your will. Please forgive me for every careless word I have spoken and stop the reaping process of that sin. I ask for Your grace to speak words of life in every situation. Holy Spirit, please lead my speech. Amen!
